Description
The goal of BSOG–171 is to introduce students to the various aspects of Indian society. There is historical evidence that Indian culture began thousands of years ago. It has always been challenging to capture the complexity of Indian society. Hence there have been many alternative explanations. Through this course, students study many perceptions associated with Indian society and how they relate to reality. Topics covered in BSOG–171 include civilisation and culture, India as a colony, nation, state and society, caste and class, language and religion, tribe and ethnicity, kinship, family, marriage, urban and village India, and resistance and power.
