1. Translate the following prose into Hindi. निम्नलिखित गद्य का हिन्दी में अनुवाद कीजिए । He stopped walking. He moved a bit closer. Green curtains (some sort of velvety material) were hanging down on either side of the window. The chrysanthemums looked wonderful beside them. He went right up and peered through the glass into the room, and the first thing he saw was a bright fire burning in the hearth. On the carpet in front of the fire, a cat was curled up asleep with its nose tucked into its belly. The room itself, so far as he could see in the half-darkness, was filled with pleasant furniture. There was a baby- grand piano and a big sofa and several plump armchairs; and in one corner he spotted a large parrot in a cage. Animals were usually a good sign in a place like this, Billy told himself; and all in all, it looked to him as though it would be a pretty decent house to stay in. Certainly it would be more comfortable than the house he was living in. 2. Translate the following prose into English. निम्नलिखित गद्य का अंग्रेजी में अनुवाद करें। हैरान हूँ कि यह तरकीब मुझे पहले कभी क्यों नहीं सूझी। शायद सूझी भी हो, और मैंने कुछ सोचकर इसे दबा दिया हो। मैं हमेशा कुछ-न-कुछ सोचकर कई बातों को दबा जाता हूँ। आज भी मुझे अंदेशा तो था कि वह पहले ही घूँट में जायका पहचान कर मेरी चोरी पकड़ लेगा। लेकिन गिलास खत्म होते-होते उसकी आँखें बुझने लगी थीं और मेरा हौसला बढ़ गया। था। जी में आया था कि उर्सी क्षण उसकी गरदन मरोड़ दूँ, लेकिन फिर नतीजों की कल्पना से दिल दहलकर रह गया था। मैं समझता हूँ कि हर बुज़दिल आदमी की कल्पना बहुत तेज़ होती है, हमेशा उसे हर ख़तरे से बचा ले जाती है। फिर भी हिम्मत बाँधकर मैंने एक बार सीधे उसकी ओर देखा ज़रूर था। इतना भी क्या कम है कि साधारण हालात में मेरी निगाहें सहमी हुई-सी उसके सामने इधर-उधर फड़फड़ाती रहती हैं। साधारण हालात में मेरी स्थिति उसके सामने बहुत असाधारण रहती है। खैर, अब उसकी आँखें बंद हो चुकी थीं और सर झूल रहा था। एक ओर लुढ़ककर गिर जाने से पहले उसकी बाँहें दो लदी हुई ढीली टहनियों की सुस्त -सी उठान के साथ मेरी ओर उठ आई थीं। उसे इस तरह लाचार देखकर भ्रम हुआ था कि वह दम तोड़ रहा है। लेकिन मैं जानता हूँ कि वह मुज़ी किसी भी क्षण उछलकर खड़ा हो सकता है। होश सँभालने पर वह कुछ कहेगा नहीं। उसकी ताकत उसकी ख़ामोशी में है। बातें वह उस ज़माने में भी बहुत कम किया करता था, लेकिन अब तो जैसे बिलकुल गूँगा हो गया हो। उसकी गूँगी अवहेलना की कल्पना मात्र से मुझे दहशत हो रही है। कहा न, कि मैं एक बुज़दिल इंसान हूँ। 3. 1. Translate the following prose into Hindi. Outside, the night was cold and wet, but in the small living room the curtains were closed and the fire burned brightly. Father and son were playing chess; the father, whose ideas about the game involved some very unusual moves, putting his king into such sharp and unnecessary danger that it even brought comment from the white-haired old lady knitting quietly by the fire. “Listen to the wind,” said Mr. White who, having seen a mistake that could cost him the game after it was too late, was trying to stop his son from seeing it. “I’m listening,” said the son, seriously studying the board as he stretched out his hand. “Check.” “I should hardly think that he’ll come tonight,” said his father, with his hand held in the air over the board. “Mate,” replied the son. 2. Translate the following prose into English. और सबसे ज्यादा प्रसन्न है हामिद । वह चार-पाँच साल का गरीब - सूरत, दुबला पतला लडका, जिसका बाप गत वर्ष हैजे की भेंट हो गया और माँ न जाने क्यों पीली होती होती एक दिन मर गयी। किसी को नहीं पता क्या बीमारी है। कहती तो कौन सुनने वाला था? दिल पर जो कुछ बीतती थी, वह दिल में ही सहती थी और जब न सहा गया तो संसार से विदा हो गयी। अब हामिद अपनी बूढी दादी अमीना की गोद में सोता है और उतना ही प्रसन्न है। उसके अब्बाजान रूपये कमाने गए हैं। बहुत-सी थैलियाँ लेकर आएंगे। अम्मीजान अल्लाह मियाँ के घर से उसके लिए बड़ी अच्छी-अच्छी चीजें लाने गई है, इसलिए हामिद प्रसन्न है। आशा तो बड़ी चीज है, और फिर बच्चों की आशा ! उनकी कल्पना तो राई का पर्वत बना लेती है। हामिद के पाँव में जूते नहीं हैं, सिर पर एक पुरानी- धुरानी टोपी है, जिसका गोटा काला पड़ गया है, फिर भी वह प्रसन्न है। जब उसके अब्बाजान थैलियाँ और अम्मीजान नियामतें लेकर आयेंगी, तो वह दिल से अरमान निकाल लेगा। तब देखेगा मोहसिन, नूरे और सम्मी कहाँ से उतने पैसे निकालेंगे। अभागिन अमीना अपनी कोठरी में बैठी रो रही है। आज ईद का दिन, उसके घर में दाना नहीं! आज आबिद होता, तो क्या इसी तरह ईद आती और चली जाती। इस अंधकार और निराशा में वह डूबी जा रही है। किसने बुलाया था इस निगोड़ी ईद को ? इस घर में उसका काम नहीं, लेकिन हामिद उसे किसी के मरने जीने से क्या मतलब? उसके अंदर प्रकाश है, बाहर आशा। 3.
