Everything You Need to Know about Writing IGNOU Assignments
Topics
Important Things to Know before Writing IGNOU Assignments
- Get a Good Understanding of Topic: Ironically, the students of IGNOU seem to be more concerned about where to fetch the assignment from, and how to get rid of the tension known as assignment than knowing about the topic in detail, for if they become able to know the topic comprehensively, half of the problem will be solved. Even if they obtain the assignment from any external source, they will be in a position to judge whether a particular assignment is Better or Bad.
- Use the words that are common: Some IGNOU students write very uncommon words, meant for the editorials of prominent English newspapers, under the impression that by seeing these words their examiner will be able to fathom the degree of the knowledge that they have in the topic they have written assignment on. But, the fact is: it compels more of referring to a dictionary and less of marking. If you have to use the same word, again and again, you may write its synonym, but the synonym too should be common in use.
- Avoid Using Technical Jargon: Some IGNOU students are addicted to technical jargon. Without writing the background and reference in which these jargons are used, they just write technical jargon. And these words seem to be like parachutes, quite aligned with the other words, subverting the meaning of the whole sentence. Agreed, your examination paper will be checked by the expert, but avoid doing an experiment using this technical jargon.
- Make an End to your Assignment with Logical Conclusion: Mind, you are not the only one who has submitted the assignment paper; there are thousands more. So, in order to lessen the burden of your examiner and impress him/her, it is always better to end your assignment with a logical conclusion. Your concluding paragraph will not only prove to be a great time-saver for the examiner but will also help him/her judge you better and reward you accordingly.
- Write in Good Handwriting: Mind, your handwriting is what can make you stand ahead of your competitors. If your handwriting is not impressive, no examiner will take the pain to know what you have written on the underneath pages. Your handwriting will be judged like the index of your writing and it will be construed that your content is as good or as bad as your handwriting is.
How to Write IGNOU Assignment?
- Make the Cover Page of your Assignment Simple: A cover page is like a first impression. If it is not impressive, the examiner will least bother to thumb through the next pages. So, do not make the cover page of your IGNOU Assignment an experiment centre for designers. Many IGNOU students make the mistake of filling the cover page of their assignment with great personalities/educationists and other creativities. Though they do it for getting the eyes of the examiner, they end up getting lower marks from even their lowest expectation. Just fill the Name(in Capital), Enrolment Number(9 digits), Course Title, Course Code, Assignment Code with Year, Address, Programme Code, Date of Submission etc. in legible and attractive handwriting and do not add any element of creativity.
- Do not Make your Assignment Multi-coloured: So many students of IGNOU make the mistake of writing dazzling assignments, maybe they think, their multi-coloured presentation of the assignment will make the examiner sweep off their feet and they will get more marks than they expect. But, the fact is exactly the opposite. The examiner gets puzzled by the presence of multicolour and instead of a reward, punishment becomes an obvious outcome. A two-colour pen is more than sufficient. Do not exceed it. Use a black pen for the question and a blue pen for an answer.
- Make your Assignment in White A4 Size White Paper: A lot of students make the mistake of writing the assignment on Rule Paper. Writing on Rule Paper fails to get the attention of the examiner as writing, more importantly, the sketches do not appear impressive. If you are a science student, writing in white A4 paper is not only desirable but essential, rather compulsory.
- Avoid Using Channel File: The disadvantage associated with channel file is that it is very tough to sign, as it does not bend. Though it is for the examiner, if you want to fetch good marks, you have to please him/her. Instead, use thread in the file. Make two holes in your A4 White Paper file and bend the pages through the thread.
Other essentials/ important things to take into consideration:
- A thin register or white sheet of A-4 size
- Allow a margin of 3-4 inches on both sides of the page
- On the cover page, write your name, roll number, mobile number, Name of the program you are enrolled in, Session, Address and code of your study center, etc.
- Attach a copy of the Question Paper after the cover page
