Published on Saturday September 7, 2024 10:29 by G team

The BA Honours in Psychology (BAPCH) provides a broad understanding of human behavior, thoughts, and emotions. This knowledge is vital for those seeking academic advancement or those who wish to understand the complexities of human interaction. IGNOU offers this program and allows students to upgrade their knowledge by conducting Project Work. If you are a student of this BAPCH program at IGNOU and facing difficulty in understanding the format and guidelines of BPCE-144 Project Work then don't worry, we are here to help you. In this blog, we’ll walk you through the complete procedure to prepare the IGNOU BPCE-144 Project, both synopsis and report.

Understanding the IGNOU BPCE-144 Project

IGNOU BPCE-144 Project work is a mandatory course of the BAPCH Programme. In this course, you must undertake research work/dissertation on any topic of interest to you. Your dissertation must be related to psychology and fulfill all the guidelines of this program. Also, you need an Academic Counsellor to complete this project work. Under his/her guidance you have to prepare a synopsis. BPCE-144 project work consists of two parts, you have to prepare a project proposal or synopsis and approve it. Once your synopsis is approved you can move ahead with writing a complete report on it. Below we have discussed the structure of the IGNOU BPCE-144 Project.

BPCE-144 Synopsis Preparation and Submission

You must submit a Synopsis before writing a dissertation/report. The Synopsis is an outline/blueprint of your proposed research work. Here you mention the topic chosen, the objectives of your study, the research problems, and the methodology to be adopted to complete the project. Your research may be based mainly on primary data collected through questionnaires and surveys. It may also be a critical review and involve the use of secondary data and may also be a mixed approach. Following are the key headings you must mention in your Synopsis.

  1. Title page: The first page should indicate the title of the proposed study.
  2. Introduction: Introduce the topic and its background.
  3. Review of Literature: Write some previous studies done by earlier researchers.
  4. Rationale of the Study: You should explain the rationale for carrying out the project work.
  5. Methodology: Here explain your Research Problem, Objectives, Hypotheses, Operational definition, Sample, Research design, Tests/Tools for data collection, and Data Analysis techniques.
  6. References: Mention all references at the end.

Once you have prepared the Synopsis in this format, you will have to get it approved by the academic counselor at the study center. You can prepare it in English or Hindi (depending on the medium chosen for the program). The maximum word limit is 1000 words written in Times New Roman on A4 size paper, font size 12 and spacing 1.5.

Your Synopsis must be enclosed with the following:

  1. a) Performa for Proposal of Synopsis of the Dissertation (Appendix-I of BPCE-144 project manual)
  2. b) Prepared Synopsis

Carrying Out the BPCE-144 Dissertation

After your Proposal/Synopsis is approved, you can move ahead and start working on your Dissertation. You should be in contact with your academic counselor as they will provide you with all the necessary assistance to prepare the dissertation. The number of pages you should include in the dissertation depends on the nature of the selected topic. However, it is generally recommended to keep it around 60-70 pages typed in double space. It should be prepared in A4 size paper and in spiral binding.

The dissertation should be in the following format:

  1. Title Page: Include your project title, your name, and your institutional affiliation.
  2. Certificates of Originality: Provide a declaration confirming the originality and authenticity of your research.
  3. Acknowledgement: Express your gratitude to those who supported you throughout your research.
  4. Table of Contents: List all sections and subsections of your project with corresponding page numbers.
  5. Synopsis: The proposed synopsis should be attached to the dissertation.
  6. Introduction: Set the stage by explaining your research topic, its background, and significance.
  7. Review of the Literature: Provide an overview of existing studies and theories related to your research topic.
  8. Rationale of the Study: Explain the need for your study and the gap it aims to fill in existing research.
  9. Methodology: Detail the research methods, design, and procedures you used to conduct your study.
  • Problem and Objectives: Clearly define your research problem and outline the specific objectives you seek to achieve.
  • Hypotheses: State the assumptions or predictions you test in your research.

  2. Conclusion: Summarize your key findings, their implications, and how they contribute to the field.
  3. Suggestions for Further Research: Offer recommendations for future studies that can build on your research.
  4. References: Provide a complete list of all sources you cited in your project, following academic citation guidelines.
