How to get an official transcript from IGNOU?

IGNOU or Indira Gandhi National Open University is a center for open and distance learning. It is known as the people’s university and it also has international recognition and presence. They can learn from IGNOU Distance Education. They have the vision to converge the resources required to enable this kind of learning and promote ideas that are integral to national development and global understanding.

It is their mission to strengthen the development of open distance learning, share professional resources, develop strong networks, and provide need-based education. They continuously strive towards creating new technologies, methods, and strategies that would make their mission simpler and provide an easy understanding to the generation of open distance learning.

IGNOU gives out a transcript which is a document that has the entire record of a student from the list of courses taken, credits earned, exams passed and grades received. It is delivered in sealed envelopes, as it is a legal document. It is usually required when a student is pursuing studies abroad and wants to show a past academic record.

This transcript requires a few documents and needs you to follow a few simple steps. These steps will be listed down below.

Step 1- Fill out the Application Form:

This form needs to be printed and filled out. It is advised to fill the form in block letters as it would be neat, clean, and easy to understand overall.

Step 2- Print/ Scan Required Documents:

Applicants are required to enclose legible and clear photocopies (both sides) of their Mark Sheets/ Grade Cards/ Provisional Certificates/ Degree Certificates etc. issued to them.
For each university that requires this transcript for your admission, you need to submit those many copies.

For e.g. If you are applying to 3 universities, you need to submit 3 copies of each document.

Step 3- Fees:

Each official transcript is chargeable. The charges are listed as follows:

  1. Rs. 300/- per transcript for Indian Students, if the transcript is required to be sent to the Student/Institute within India.
  2. Rs. 500/- per transcript for Indian Students, if the transcript is required to be sent to the Student/Institute outside India.
  3. Rs. 600/- per transcript for the SAARC Countries Students, if the transcript is required to be sent to the Student/Institute within India.
  4. Rs. 1200/- per transcript for the SAARC Countries students, if the transcript is required to be sent outside India.
  5. $60 per transcript for Non-SAARC Countries Students, if the transcript is required to be sent to the Student/Institute within India.
  6. $120 per transcript for Non-SAARC Countries students, if the transcript is required to be sent outside India.

For e.g. as said above, if you are applying to 3 SAARC universities in India, I will have to pay 3 x 600 = Rs. 1800/- for 3 total transcripts.

The mode of payment is through a demand draft drawn in the favor of ‘“IGNOU” PAYABLE AT NEW DELHI.’ You are required to make ONE demand draft only for your payment.

The demand draft should reach the Division 60 days prior to the expiry date on the draft to ensure a smooth transaction with the bank.

It is advised to write your roll number, name & mobile number on the back of your demand draft, in case it is misplaced.

Step 4- Mention the Mode of Collection: 

If the Applicant wants to collect the official transcript personally, they should mention it under Point 10 while filling up the form. They should fill in the required details in the prescribed format for calling them.

While the collection of the transcript, the applicant should carry- a valid Original Identity Card/Voter ID Card/Aadhar Card/PAN Card/Driving License or Passport, etc. for proof of identity and address.

If the student wishes the official transcript collected by another person, the receiver has to produce all the documents mentioned above at the time of collection, their photocopies as well as an “Authorization Letter” signed by the concerned student. The receiver also needs to submit photocopies of all these documents.

Further, they should do so from the Section Officer, IGNOU Exam.-III Section of SED, Block-12, Room No.-10, IGNOU, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 (India).

Step 5- Submission: 

Attach the form, the photocopies of the required documents, and the demand draft and submit it or send it to-

The Registrar, Student Evaluation Division, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Block-12, Maidan Garhi, New Delhi-110068 (INDIA).

After this, The University will be sending/dispatching the “Official Transcripts” under sealed envelope(s) through Indian Speed Post Services. Normally, it will take about 15 days for the EXAM III Section of SED for the Application Form. Dispatching/Issuance time depends upon the time taken for the verification reports by other sections and circumstances.

Generally, it takes 20-25 days to receive the transcript. The inquiry about the status of the “Official Transcript” submitted by the student/applicant can be obtained from“Official Transcript Counter.”
