The course provides knowledge that makes you adept in digital libraries, cataloging, and information technology. IGNOU offers a BLIS course to help students avail opportunities in publishing, archives, and research organizations. One of the crucial components of this program in IGNOU is its Internship (BLII 230 Internship) which you have to complete. However, if you are unable to complete the Internship due to various reasons, IGNOU has given you an internship alternative to do a literature survey or Library-Based Survey. In this comprehensive blog, we’ll discuss how you can prepare for a BLII 230 internship or do a literature survey or library-based survey.

BLII 230 Internship

The BLII 230 internship exposes you to practical learning and helps you understand how things function at the LIS Schools. The internship spans 1 month/30 Days and you participate in various operations such as services, automation, digitization, administration, and publication within a library or information center. You can conduct the study in multiple centers such as ministries, research organizations, and PSUs. The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the BLII 230 Internship is as follows.

Components of BLII 230 Internship

The important components of the BLII 230 Internship are given below. This gives an overview of the internship and its structures.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for BLII 230 Internship

First of all you will be assigned with a library or information center in a particular city/town. Your regional center or study center will help you get attached to a library or you can also choose a library on your own. But before starting the training or internship you must first get the approval from your RC/SC. Also, you can ask for an internship letter from your RC/SC. This will help you get placed in the Library easily.

During the internship you will be required to work 5 days a week, at least 5 hours a day, for 1 month, excluding holidays, to complete your 100 hours of training. During this time, you will perform various tasks such as organizing books, journals, and other resources, arranging books on shelves, assisting in issuing, returning, or renewing books, managing electronic resources and helping users find resources. The detailed tasks are outlined in the Internship manual.

While doing the internship, your supervisor will review your work, monitor your progress, correct your reports, and provide guidance. They will give you individual feedback, which will help you complete your training effectively.

What Are the Essential Criteria for Your Internship Hosting Organization?

This is important to note that you can complete your internship in specific organizations only which is mentioned in the SOP Manual. Your supervisor must hold a Ph.D. in Library and Information Science or a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science with two years of experience in a reputed library.
