The International Division for IGNOU was founded on 16th October, 1997 as a Cell and in the year 2002, it was upgraded to the status of a full-fledged Division. The vision and mission to open an international division were to cater to the needs of overseas students as well as foreign students residing in India (FRSIs) for study purposes and to expand IGNOU’s reach in the international arena.
The division also functions as the coordinating authority for Overseas Study Centres located in many countries across the globe. The IGNOU international division offers selected courses to FRSIs (through Regional Centres in India) and to Overseas Students (through Overseas Study Centres of the University). The international division has expanded its academic courses and different regional centers in various parts of South Asia, the Middle East, and African nations.
IGNOU offers around 60 academic programs to its Overseas / FSRI students. Currently, IGNOU’s academic programs are on offer in the U.A.E (Sharjah), Kuwait, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kingdom of Bahrain, and Sultanate of Oman among the Gulf countries. Nepal and Sri Lanka are among the SAARC countries, and Mauritius, Singapore, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Ivory Coast in Africa.
