Srinagar: Indira Gandhi National Open University, popularly known as IGNOU, has introduced 3 new courses in Journalism. All these three are specialised Master's degree in Journalism, namely MA in Journalism and Electronic Media, MA in Development Journalism as well as MA in Journalism and Digital Media. Importantly, these courses are along with PG Diploma in Advertising and Integrated Communication.
If the sources of IGNOU are to be believed, these programs will be offered in both open and distance modes starting from the January, 2023 admission cycle. In a press statement released by IGNOU, it was stated that courses will be offered through the regional centres of IGNOU. The press statement of IGNOU also stated that the admission process of January, 2023 session is undergoing and the last date of admission for approximately 300 courses is the last date of the first month, i.e., 31st January, 2023.
While launching three specified Master's degree Programmes, the Vice Chancellor of IGNOU Prof. Nageshwar Rao stated that the school of Journalism and New Media Studies offers these programmes in order to facilitate the interest of the learners to specialise in an area of their choice in the field of journalism. During the launch function, Prof. Rao further added, "IGNOU offers these programmes with great flexibility in lateral exit and entry options, and learners can pursue their programmes at their convenience."
Speaking on this occasion, the regional director IGNOU, Mr Shahnawaz Ahmad Dar said, "the information regarding the programmes on offer for this admission cycle and other details are available in the IGNOU Prospectus 2023 which is available on the website of IGNOU (www.ignou.ac.in) and Regional Centre Srinagar (www.rcsrinagar.ignou.ac.in)."
