MEG OR Master of Arts in English is a Master's degree conferred to students. Like any other college course, the MEG course duration is a minimum of 2 years and maximum of 4 years.
With the academic session of July 2019, the IGNOU has adopted the Choice Based Credit System presented by the University Grants Commission. The Choice-based Credit System, which is on offer at the Master's degree level, gives adaptability to the students to study the subjects/courses of their needs and interests.

The aim of the Master’s Degree in English (MEG) Programme is to give the learners a sound understanding of English and American literature and also other new areas in literature such as Canadian, Australian, and Indian English. The learners would develop an understanding of English and other literature of their choice in their proper historico-critical perspectives.
Good knowledge of reading, comprehension and writing skills would be a prerequisite for this Programme. A student can obtain an MA degree in English by taking 8 courses (of 8 credits each is equal to 64 credits) in all(Five of these are compulsory). For the remaining three, the student has a choice from a number of optional courses. Some more optional courses are under preparation.
