INTRODUCTION
The IGNOU international division offers selected courses to FRSIs (through Regional Centres in India) and to Overseas Students (through Overseas Study Centres of the University). The international division has expanded its academic courses and different regional centres in various parts of South Asia, the Middle East, and African nations.
M.Com. OR Master of Commerce is a Master's degree conferred to students. Like any other college course, the M.Com. course duration is a minimum of 2 years and maximum of 5 years.
With the academic session of July 2019, the IGNOU has adopted the Choice Based Credit System presented by the University Grants Commission. The Choice-based Credit System, which is on offer at the Master degree level, gives adaptability to the students to study the subjects/courses of their needs and interests.
The programme meets the expanding needs in Commerce education at all levels and provides the necessary manpower to industry, trade, PSUs, Government and Private enterprises in the areas like Finance, International Business and Accounting. In order to be eligible for the award of the Master of Commerce (M.Com.) degree, a student has to complete 12 courses equivalent to 72 credits (1 credit is 30 study hours) comprising six core courses and six specialization courses. The student will be awarded Postgraduate Diploma in International Business Operations on the completion of all first-year courses worth 36 credits and a Master of Commerce Degree with specialization in International Business Operations after completion of all 72 credits.
Masters of Commerce or M.Com. is a post-graduate level course, ideal for candidates who wish to make a career in banking financial services and insurance (BFSI) as well as Accounting and Commerce sectors. The 2-year course delves deeper into the functioning of the economy, capital, revenue, trade, taxes, etc. taught in B.Com.
Since M.Com. is a specialized area in itself, only those candidates who have pursued B.Com. or B.Com. (H), can go for it. M.Com. is also a good option for CA/CS candidates. However, not many CA/CS aspirants pursue M.Com. as CA/CS courses can be pursued after class 12.
M.Com. is most popular among aspiring teachers/lecturers and researchers. UGC-NET/JRF and Ph.D. are among popular options for M.Com. degree holders.
