IGNOU MANP-01 Project – Role of NRHM in Ensuring Women Health with Special Reference to Kerala

Women constitute 48.6% (405.1 Million) of the rural population, whereas the male population stands at 51.4% (427.9 Million) which projects a sex ratio of 947 (Census 2011). The multiple attempts made by the government have not been able to curb the growing regional, gender and economic differences which throw a spanner in the prosperity of the health sector. The urban regions, where a measly 31.16% of the total population resides, manifest roughly 75% of the country’s health infrastructure, medical man power and other health facilities. The health status of Indian women, especially those residing in Indian villages is a serious concern (Goyal, 2002).

Objectives

• The following objectives are formulated for the proposed study:
• To assess the knowledge of women beneficiaries on National Rural Health Mission related services
• To understand the extent of availability and accessibility of National Rural Health Mission services to women beneficiaries
• To find out the challenges faced by women beneficiaries in accessing National Rural Health Mission services
• To describe the benefits received by women beneficiaries from National Rural Health Mission
• To study the relevance of Socio demographic variables on accessing National Rural Health Mission services
