IGNOU MECP-101 Project – The Impact of Gulf Remittance on the Socio- Economic Profile of Dependent Families in Kerala

The process of migration brings many type of positive and negative impact on the origin and these outcomes vary from place to place, from household to household, from individual to individual (Eversole, 2008). Migration-remittance flows will increase households’ investments in productive assets and activities, rather than consumer goods and expect that the changes in households’ assets (as a result of migration-remittance behaviour) will depend on households’ initial economic status.

Objectives

• To examine the history of economic and educational status of Muslim community in Kerala.
• To examine the impact of emigration on the economic condition and educational attainments of Muslim community.
• To identify the determinants of higher education among the Muslim community.
• To evaluate the impact of educational infrastructure on the educational achievements and skill formation of Muslim community and its impact on emigration.
