IGNOU MGPE-17 Project – Socio Economic Principles of Mahatma Gandhi

Mohan Das Karamchand Gandhi, later known as Mahatma Gandhi, was one of the greatest figures of the world history. People in India lovingly and reverently call him as the Father of the Nation. He was born in 1869 at Porbandar (Sudampuri), a well- known place in the state of Kathiawad in Gujarat. His father Karam Chand Uttamchand Gandhi (also known as Kaba Gandhi) was the Dewan of Kathiawad. He was simple and straight forward. He cared more for righteousness than for worldly position or wealth. His mother Putlibai was a pious and religious woman.
