IGNOU MS-100 (OM) Project – Implementation and Effectiveness of PMOs in the IT Companies in Punjab

Information technology in India is an industry which includes two basic features: Offerings related to IT and Business process outsourcing (BPO). IT sector has made a huge progress in its contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of India. In 1998, IT sector contributed 1.2% of GDP. In 2012, the contribution of IT sector increased to 7.5% of GDP. The sector reported revenues of US$160 billion in 2017as per data reported by The National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM). More than 60% of India IT exports were accounted to United States of America (Information Tehnology in India, Wikipedia, 2018).

Objectives

• To find that whether those organizations that have PMOs are more successful than the organizations that do not have PMOs;
• To find out whether PMOs are useful and help the IT projects to achieve their objectives; To find out the demographic factors have a role to play in the implementation of PMOs and the challenges being faced by PMOs;
• To explore the state of implementation of PMOs in IT companies in Punjab;
• To find out the impact of contribution of PMOs on the project success, in terms of meeting objectives of schedule, cost and quality;
• To study the demographic factors encouraging or discouraging the effective implementation of PMOs in IT organizations;
• To suggest amicable measures to handle the challenges being faced by PMOs in the present era.
