IGNOU PTS-04 Project – Study of Indian Paintings

Wall paintings and miniatures form the two main categories of Indian paintings. Both of these are, by their very nature, perishable, being a natural prey to humidity, heat, insects and a host of others each including human neglect. The changing of aesthetic norms and a general apathy towards the need to preserve anything old have exacted their toll, than leaving very few extant examples of paintings done in ancient India, between eight cent B.C and the ninth cent A.D.

Objectives

• To know more about the paintings how the art are formed and to give a finishing touch of the wall painting.
• To understand the aesthetic point of view of miniatures paintings.
• To investigate a better placed of the principle, traditions, material and techniques and the themes of miniatures paintings.
• To compare those of paintings are much like Ajanta and Ellora paintings are much different from those the medieval painting because of the aristocratic, individualistic, strong in the character of portraiture.
