IMPHAL: Manipur was in the news for some 3-4 months because of the wrong reasons, i.e. the state being trouble-torne. But, this time Manipur is in news for good reason. The Union Minister from Manipur, Mr RK Ranjan announced on 20th August that Meitei Language, that has got the distinction of being widely spoken in this north-east state, is going to be included in the Syllabus of Indira Gandhi National Open University, i.e. IGNOU.
According to the official announcement, Mr Ranjan, who happens to be the MP from Manipur, said that the Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi has given his nod on the inclusion of this Manipuri Language, in the syllabus of IGNOU. Importantly, MR Ranjan holds the portfolio of the Union Minister of State for External Affairs as well as Education.
This important announcement of RK came at a function to mark the occasion of the 32nd Manipuri Language Day that was observed on Sundat, August 20th. The function was organized at Iboyaima Sumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound Imphal. The President of Manipur Sahitya Parishad Mr Joychandra Singh presided the occasion as chief guest. It is important to mention here that Meitei is the language that has its roots almost 2,000 years ago.
