Are you looking forward to getting all the details about Swayam programme? If your answer to this question is an affirmative yes, then read this article completely. Former President Pranab Mukherjee launched a program named Swayam, which is a government of India initiative to provide the students with the best teaching resources online.
This is a great initiative that aims to bridge the students who lack the touch of the digital revolution and who have not been able to join the mainstream knowledge economy of India.
So, if you are a student from any part of India, you get the opportunity to take courses offered by best teachers. Since digitalization is evolved here, the student gets connected to the teachers virtually without the need to go anywhere.
This program can be seen as a call to the teachers to make use of the material provided and improve their teaching skills. This initiative will benefit both the students and the teacher.
You need not worry about the cost/fee for this program because Swayam courses are available at free of cost for all the learners.
Certification
Students who demand a certificate for the courses they complete must register for the course on the first hand. If they have registered for the course, they will be awarded the certificate when the course is completed. A small fee will be collected for the certificate.
Transferable grades/marks
In this Swayam scheme, the student upon completion of a course, has to take an assessment test. The marks scored in this exam can be transferred to the student's academic record. For this feature, UGC issued a regulation in 2016, advising all the universities to correctly identify the courses and plan where the credits can be added to the academic record of the students for courses done on Swayam.
Swayam platform has been developed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) along with the help of Microsoft.
Courses
This programme is hosting around 2000 courses and 80000 hours of learning, under-graduate, engineering, covering school, and other professional courses.
Also, to ensure the best quality content is produced and delivered, nine National Coordinators have been appointed. They are:
IGNOU (Indira Gandhi National Open University) for out-of-school students.
AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) for self-paced and international courses.
NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning) for Engineering.
CEC (Consortium for Educational Communication) for undergraduate education.
NCERT (National Council of Educational Research and Training) for school education.
UGC (University Grants Commission) for non-technical post-graduation education.
NIOS (National Institute of Open Schooling) for school education.
IIMB (Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore) for management studies.
NITTTR (National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research) for Teacher Training program.
The Swayam courses are available in four different formats on Swayam.gov.in website. The four formats include video lectures, reading material that can be downloaded and printed, self-assessment tests that are done through online quizzes and tests, and finally an online discussion forum for clearing the doubts raised during this segment.
